Best Beginner Cards
This is my favorite cards to start with and the best overall card for beginners. The points can be transferred to airlines and hotels. If you already have this card, check out my super easy to follow Three Year Plan!

Personal Cards
Flexible Points Offers
There’s a lot of behind the scenes for affiliate offers and one of the complications is that some cards I can earn an affiliate commission on but I can’t link to these offers directly from the card names. I *can* link to card offers from Chase, American Express, and Capital One – but generally can’t for other banks.

Limited Time Perk: Get a free Calm Premium subscription (worth $99, ends March 31) and Whoop Life membership with free band (worth $359, ends May 12). More here.
The annual fee is one of the highest of all premium cards. If you can use the credits/coupons — you’ll come out ahead! But if they don’t match your typical spending, this might not be a great card for you. Use our benefits calculator at the bottom of this article to see if it makes sense for you!
This is one of the few cards that still gives you access to Priority Pass™ experiences like Gameway. Most other cards just give access to the lounges but if you frequent an airport with a Priority Pass™ experience, this benefit can be worth a lot to you! It also gives access to a growing network of Sapphire Lounges.
The travel credit is also very easy to use which is a huge plus. See a full list of all our resources on using the card perks here.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is THE top beginner card I recommend for miles & points. The travel protections it provides is top tier, too. Get this card early in your travel points journey, it’s a keeper. It’s the first card in my Three Year Plan.
But the good news is that points you’ll earn are easy to redeem and it’s also easy to keep earning them. Our favorite use is to transfer them to Hyatt for hotel stays but you can use them for cash back, for any travel expense, or for airlines. See more inspiration here and here.
It has a fun extra benefit through December 31, 2027: $10 a month for non-restaurant purchases at DoorDash. Read here how to use this benefit.
If you want to learn more about it, check out Season 1 of my podcast — I dive into the benefits and how to use the points.

This is a strong offer for points that transfer to a lot of airline partners. A lot of people really like the 4x earning possibilities on this card. But it’s a card that takes a little work to find value in the annual fee, you have to make sure to use all the little credits.
If you’re interested in this card, know that getting this offer will make you ineligible to get the a welcome offer on the American Express® Green Card. So to maximize your points you’d want to get that card first. That card never has a thrilling offer, so it’s also ok to skip it and go straight to this. Note if you have (or have had recently) a American Express Platinum Card®, you’ll be ineligible for this offer.
See benefits calculator here.
Public offer used to generally be 60k. We have seen targeted or referral offers of 90,000 and 100,00 in 2024-2025. Amex recently changed offers on this card to be “up to” certain amounts and you don’t know what your offer will be until you start the application. You will see a personalized offer after you start but before your credit is pulled. In the past, highly targeted offers to certain people will be higher.

- Free checked bag
- Priority boarding
- 10% relationship bonus on miles earned via spending if you have a qualifying account (Bank of America banking account) that has a transaction every 90 days
- 20% back on all Alaska Airlines inflight purchases and $100 off annual Alaska Airlines lounge membership
This card that replaced the previous Alaska Airlines card.
Alaska has some great sweet spot options and includes a free stopover on award flights, even one way flights! Bank of America can be sensitive to lots of recent card openings. Your best chance of approval if you have opened more than 2 cards in 12 months is to open a Bank of America checking account. Business card may be a better option for you if trying to stay under 5/24.
But beware! Bank of America’s website makes it really hard to set up Autopay!
The previous Alaska Airlines version of this card typically fluctuatee from 40,000-70,000 miles. Occasionally it also included a $100 statement credit. The new Atmos version has offered up to 85,000 miles for limited periods.

- Every year on your account anniversary, receive a Global 25K Companion Award, worth up to 25,000 points off a published award ticket.
- Receive 8 Alaska Lounge passes annually (2 per calendar quarter) credited to the primary cardholder’s Atmos™ Rewards account on January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1. Each pass admits one adult and up to two accompanied children (under 21) for same-day access to all Alaska Lounge locations. Partner lounges not included.
- Enjoy a complimentary signature cocktail or elevated bar offering every time you visit an Alaska Lounge location through 2026
- Receive up to $120 in statement credits for either Global Entry® or TSA PreCheck®.
- Free checked bag for cardholder plus up to 6 guests traveling on the same reservation.
- 10% relationship bonus on miles earned via spending if you have a qualifying account (Bank of America banking account) and have a transaction every 90 days
This was a brand new card as of August 2025. It’s definitely targeted to frequent Alaska fliers, as you’d expect a premium airline card to be.
The lounge access it includes is a little more restrictive than I’d like with only 2 passes per quarter and no roll over. But that still would be enough for a family of up to 6 to get into the Alaska lounges at once per quarter.
The annual 25,000 point Global Companion certificate is a strong benefit for people who will use it as it can even be topped off.
Ultimately every person would have to crunch the numbers on this card to see if it makes sense to keep it past the first year with that higher annual fee.
New card as of August 2025. Initial offer was for 100,000 points + a 25,000 point Companion Certificate.

60k or 70k miles are both standard offers for this card. In March 2025, we saw an elevated offer of 80k miles with a spending requirement of $3,000. An additional 5k miles were offered upon adding an authorized user and using an agent’s promotional code.

Either way, Hawaiian miles officially merged into the the combined loyalty program with Alaska Airlines called Atmos™ Rewards on October 1, 2025. This opened up good possibilities for sweet spots, especially with alliance partners.
Historically, the bonus has hovered around 50,000 to 70,000 HawaiianMiles.
There was an elevated offer of 80,000 bonus miles with a $2,500 spend that ended in December 2025.
Earn 75,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on purchases and paying the annual fee in full, both within the first 90 days.

- First checked bag free.
- 5,000 bonus points each year after your JetBlue Plus Card account anniversary
This is a good card to earn some quick JetBlue points. JetBlue flights are priced directly according to cash prices so 80,000 points will get you about $1000-$1200 of Jet Blue flights.
This has been as high as 100,000 miles but required a $6000 spend to get that. 50,000 miles is the more standard offer.

What I don’t like: you don’t even get an annual free night certificate automatically. The annual fee has always seemed a bit high to me for what you are getting in value.

Read the terms carefully to determine if you are eligible for this welcome offer as Marriott cards have complicated eligibility. - Earn 3X Points for all other eligible purchases on your Card.
- Enjoy complimentary Hilton Honors™ Silver Status with your Card. Silver Status gives you a 20% Bonus on Base Points you earn on every stay, plus you receive the fifth night free when you book a standard room stay with 100% Points.
Hilton generally requires more points for a redemption (up to 95,000 points for a standard rate) but you do get the 5th night free with award bookings.
This is a great offer on a no annual fee card — that free night certificate can be used at ANY Hilton property if a standard room is available.
Compare all the Hilton cards here.
Offers fluctuate from 70,000 points and up. I recommend waiting for a 100,000 point offer or one that includes a free night certificate.
An offer of 100,000 points started in October 2025 and will be good through January 2026.

Flexible Points Offers
All of these offers will earn you points that you can then transfer to a variety of hotel and award loyalty programs. Some cards in this section list their offers as cash back — but when combined with the right card — the cash back can become transferrable points.
Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card
- Earn 3 points per $1 on the first $150,000 spent in combined purchases on travel, shipping purchases, Internet, cable, social media and search engine advertising, and phone services
- Travel Benefits: Points are worth more when you redeem for travel through Chase Travel(SM), No Foreign Transaction Fees and Trip Cancellation/Trip Interruption Insurance.

Chase Ink cards are our favorite option when we have larger expenses coming that help us to meet the higher minimum spend. This card will allow you to transfer its points to all of Chase’s travel partners like Hyatt, United, Southwest, and more.
I also love the 3x earning on travel expenses and no foreign transaction fees — along with a good suite of benefits.
This card used to offer 100k points but required a $15,000 spend. An offer for 120,000 points after spending $8000 in three months ran from July to early September 2024. For most of 2025, the offer has been for 90k points with an $8000 spending requirement.
Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card
- If you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, you can transfer the Ink points to the Sapphire card to get all the airline and hotel transfer benefits!
- Earn unlimited 1.5% Cash Back rewards on all business purchases
For many years, the bonus on this card offered $500 after you spent $3000 in 3 months.
The offer changed to $750 after spending $7500 in 3 months during the pandemic.
In fall 2022, the offer went to $900 after spending $6,000 in 3 months. In fall 2023, we saw the $900 offer return from September to mid-January 2024.
In fall 2024, we saw the $900 offer from mid-September to early November .
A $900 offer after spending $6000 in 3 months ran from September 12 to Nov 13, 2025.

Capital One Spark Cash Plus
- Earn unlimited 2% cash back on every purchase, everywhere—with no limits or category restrictions
- Earn unlimited 5% cash back on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Business Travel
- Redeem cash back at any time with no minimums
- The Spark Cash Plus card has no preset spending limit, so it can adapt to your needs based on your spending behavior, payment history, credit profile and other factors
- If you have a card that earns Venture miles, this cash back can convert to miles and be used to then transfer to hotel and airline partners
- Spark Cash Plus has no APR because your balance is due in full every month
The Capital One Spark Cash Plus is a great option if you have a lot of expenses coming up. The current welcome offer offers a hefty $2,000 cash back bonus.
This business card generally is known to not report to personal credit reports so it should not add to your 5/24 count.
Overall this is a strong card option if you can meet the spend requirements. Because you earn 2% cash back, you’ll have earned $2600 cash back total after spending $30,000. It would be a great card to add to my Three Year Plan if you have high expenses.
Note that this does require to you pay off your bill in full each month.
Previous offer was “Earn a $1,200 cash bonus when you spend $30,000 in the first 3 months” and other previous offers required up to $50,000 in spend to reach a bonus.
- Earn unlimited 2X miles on every purchase, everywhere-with no limits or category restrictions
- Earn unlimited 10X miles on hotels and rental cars and 5X miles on flights and vacation rentals booked through Capital One Business Travel, where you’ll get the best prices on thousands of options
- With no preset spending limit, enjoy big purchasing power that adapts so you can spend more and earn more rewards
- Empower your teams to make business purchases while earning rewards on their transactions, with free employee and virtual cards. Plus, automatically sync your transaction data with your accounting software and pay your vendors with ease
- Redeem your miles on flights, hotels and more. Plus, transfer your miles to any of the 15+ travel loyalty programs
- Every year, you’ll get 10,000 bonus miles after your account anniversary date. Plus, receive an annual $300 credit for bookings through Capital One Business Travel
- Receive up to a $120 credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck(R).
- Enjoy access to 1,300+ airport lounges worldwide, including Capital One Lounge and Landing locations and participating Priority Pass™ lounges, after enrollment
- Enjoy a $100 experience credit and other premium benefits with every hotel and vacation rental booked from the Premier Collection
- This is a pay-in-full card, so your balance is due in full every month
The Capital One Venture X Business is very similar to the consumer (or personal) version of this card. The Business version has a few notable differences. Most notably negative — if you add an authorized user, they don’t get any lounge benefits. This is actually changing on February 1, 2026. You will be able to add lounge access for authorized users –for a $125 fee. But guest access for lounges is ending. See more details here.
Overall, this is a strong card option for one person to get lounge benefits without adding to their 5/24 count. The welcome offers typically require a higher spend, so best for businesses with large expected spends coming up.
This card was released in fall 2023 and at that time required a $30,000 spend to get 150,000 miles. Then we saw a lower spend required ($20,000) to earn 150,000 miles with an option to spend more and earn more. In March 2024, it went back to 150,000 miles after spending $30,000.
Ended 1/20/26 – Earn 200k after spending $30k in 3 months + 200k more after a total of $150k in 6 months

- Earn 4X Membership Rewards® points on the top two eligible categories where your business spends the most each month from 6 eligible categories. While your top 2 categories may change, you will earn 4X points on the first $150,000 in combined purchases from these categories each calendar year (then 1X thereafter). Only the top 2 categories each billing cycle will count towards the $150,000 cap.
- The Business Gold Card comes in three metal designs: Gold, Rose Gold and White Gold. White Gold design is only available while supplies last. Make your selection when you apply on Americanexpress.com.
- $240 Flexible Business Credit: With the $240 Flexible Business Credit, earn up to $20 in statement credits monthly after you use your Business Gold Card for eligible U.S. purchases at FedEx, Grubhub, and Office Supply Stores. Enrollment required.
- Walmart+ Monthly Membership Credit: Receive a statement credit for one monthly Walmart+ membership (subject to auto-renewal) after you pay for Walmart+ each month with your Business Gold Card. Up to $12.95 plus applicable local sales tax. Plus Ups not eligible.
- $150 Squarespace Annual Credit: Enroll and get up to $150 in statement credits annually for U.S. purchases with Squarespace on your Business Gold Card.
If you’re new, I’d prioritize the Ink cards. But if you have been at this a while and can’t open Ink cards right now, or want to take a breather from Chase, this is a solid offer.
I also like that American Express generally doesn’t run a hard pull on your credit report if you are an existing customer so this should not have any affect on your credit score at all.
Trying to decide if this card is worth the annual fee? Check our our benefits calculator for it here.
Offers on this card have fluctuated widely often due to link targeting. Most recent high was 200,000 Membership Rewards after spending $15,000 in 3 months. Usually the offer is at least 100,000.
In April 2026, this card changed the offer to be “as high as” which means different people will be targeted for different offers — sometimes you’ll even see different offers from different browsers or devices.

- Unlock over $2,000 in statement credits with business and travel benefits annually* on the Business Platinum Card. Terms apply. Learn more. *After meeting qualifying spend thresholds
- New! Enroll and get up to $150 in statement credits on U.S purchases directly with Dell Technologies on the Business Platinum Card and an additional $1,000 statement credit after you spend $5,000 or more on that same Card per calendar year.
- New! Enroll and get a $250 statement credit after you spend $600 or more on U.S. purchases directly with Adobe per calendar year on the Business Platinum Card.
- Fly like a pro with a $200 Airline Fee Credit. Select one qualifying airline to receive up to $200 back per year on baggage fees and other incidentals.
- Make the Business Platinum Card(R) work even harder for you. Hilton For Business members get up to $200 back per calendar year when you make an eligible purchase at Hilton properties across the globe. Benefit enrollment required.
- Use the Business Platinum Card(R) and get up to $209 back per calendar year on your Clear+ Membership (subject to auto-renewal).
This has a very high spend as well as high annual fee. BUT may be worth it for some people, especially if you can leverage the statement credits. The airline incidental statement credit is per calendar year. That means most people can actually get the airline credit twice in the first year of holding the card, up to $200 each time.
This card refreshed in September 2025 and added a few more credits along with raising the annual fee. Be sure to use our benefits calculator to find out if this card is worth it for you. The calculation is different for everyone!
The offers on this card fluctuate greatly. It has been as low as 80,000 points.

Airline Card Offers
My favorite business offers for earning airline miles right now. These are loosely in the order that I would personally prioritize them but this is not absolute! There are many reasons someone might prefer a United card over an American Airlines card, or go for a Delta card first.
There’s a lot of behind the scenes for affiliate offers and one of the complications is that some cards I can earn an affiliate commission on but I can’t link to these offers directly from the card names. I *can* link to card offers from Chase, American Express, and Capital One – but generally can’t for other banks.

- First checked bag free on domestic American Airlines itineraries for you and up to 4 travel companions on the same reservation
- Preferred boarding
Even at the standard 65,000 offer,I leave it on this page because it is a good one to get to stock up on AA miles.
It’s not a card I keep long term (though you might want to if you find the free bags helpful). I usually get it every 48 months as the terms allow. I generally wait for an offer of 65,000 miles or higher.
65,000 miles is the standard offer on this card. The highest we have seen is 75,000 after spending $6,000 in 6 months. A 75,000 mile offer ended in June 2024. A 75,000 mile offer ended in January 2025.

- Free checked bag for you and six companions
- 3x miles per $1 spent on Alaska Airlines purchases and 1x miles on all other purchases
- No foreign transaction fees
- 10% relationship bonus on miles earned via spending if you have a qualifying account (Bank of America banking account) and have a transaction every 90 days
- 20% back on all Alaska Airlines inflight purchases
Alaska has some great sweet spot options and includes a free stopover on award flights, even one way flights! Bank of America can be sensitive to lots of recent card openings. Your best chance of approval if you have opened more than 2 cards in 12 months is to open a Bank of America checking account.
Beware that Bank of America’s website makes it extremely difficult to set up Autopay!
This replaced the Bank of America Alaska Business card in August 2025.
This card was released in August 2025 with an 80k offer.
Previous versions of this card as Alaska Mileage Plan business card had a 75,000 bonus miles as the best ever offer on this card. Other offers fluctuated starting at 40,000 miles.
United℠ Business Card
- 8x total miles on eligible United flights.
- 2x miles on all other eligible United® purchases, dining including eligible delivery services, at gas stations, office supply stores, and on local transit and commuting.
- 1x mile on all other purchases. Plus, employee cards at no additional cost – miles earned from their purchases accrue in your account so you can earn rewards faster.
- Receive a 5,000-mile “better together” bonus each anniversary when you have both the United℠ Business Card and a personal Chase United® credit card.
- Enjoy a free first checked bag – a savings of up to $160 per roundtrip (terms apply), 2 United Club℠ one-time passes per year, and priority boarding privileges.
- Receive a $125 United travel credit after making 5 United(R) flight purchases of $100 or more each calendar year with your United(SM) Business Card.
- Member FDIC
United upped their pricing for flights booked with points in 2023, so that was a disappointment to see (though it is part of points inflation).
Having a United card does open more saver availability which is a nice perk in addition to the free bags.
Previous high offer included the 75,000 miles and also an additional 75,000 miles after $20,000 in total spend within the first six months. Other offers we have seen are 50,000 miles after spending $5,000 in 3 months. 100,000 points after spending $5,000 ended in April 2024.
In April 2025, we saw a sign up offer for 125k offer with $5k spending requirement. The offer increased to 135k if you added an authorized user in the first 3 months (5k miles), and used a promotional code from your United agent (additional 5k). This offer ended in June 2025.
Southwest® Rapid Rewards® Performance Business Credit Card
- TSA Precheck, Global Entry, or NEXUS statement credit (up to $120 every 4 years)
- 4 upgraded boardings per year (ends December 31, 2025)
- Free in-flight wifi (ends December 31, 2025)
- Earn 2,500 tier qualifying points (TQPs) toward A-List status for every $5,000 spent in purchases annually
- 4x earning on Southwest flights; 2x on local transit, internet, cable, and phone services
- 9000 points per year on your card member anniversary
- $500 Fee credit for points transfers (ends December 31, 2025)
- First checked bag free for cardholder + up to 8 people on their reservation
- Select a Preferred seat for free at time of booking for cardholder + up to 8 people on their reservation
- Upgrade to an Extra Legroom seat for free 48 hours before departure (if available)
I thought the fee was inflated on this card back when it was $199. At $299 it’s a tough calculation to justify keeping long term. But since it typically has a higher welcome offer than the Premier Business card, a lot of people may end up with this one for at least a year to help earn a Companion Pass. It does have perks like the credit for Global Entry or TSA Pre√ or Nexus. Do your own calculation with our benefits calculators on all the Southwest cards.
Now that Southwest has made the switch to assigned seating, the ability to select a preferred seat for free at booking is potentially valuable for some people. And if you spend a lot with Southwest, the 4x earning rate is a good way to rack up a lot of Southwest points.
Overall, this card really helps make it so easy to get a Southwest Companion Pass. Just pay close attention to your timing when applying if you’re trying to maximize the Companion Pass.

Opening this business card versus one of the personal Marriott cards will help you stay under 5/24 longer and that’s the main benefit of this card. I do like the annual free night certificate, too — and that you can top it off with up to 25k points.
Be sure to pay close attention to all the eligibility rules when applying for any Marriott card as they are pretty convoluted!
Check out my map of family friendly Marriotts for inspiration.
The welcome offer fluctuates from 75,000 bonus points to 125,000 points.
- Sometimes the bonus is 3 free night certificates for up to 50k per night
- The highest we’ve seen was 5 free nights (up to 50k per night and ended March 2024, was offered again and ended July 2024).

This is a great way to earn Hilton points and not affect your 5/24 status! Hilton points are especially valuable when you can stay 5 nights — the 5th night will be free. You can also use them to stay at a lot of Small Luxury Hotels, independent hotels around the world.
That being said, Hilton has had some massive increases in price in the past few years so these points won’t stretch as far as other programs. See our full Hilton card guide here.

IHG One Rewards Premier Business Credit Card
- Enjoy an Anniversary Free Night at IHG Hotels & Resorts. Plus, enjoy a fourth reward night free when you redeem points for a consecutive four-night IHG® hotel stay.
- Earn up to 26 total points per $1 spent when you stay at an IHG hotel
- Platinum Elite status as long as you remain a Premier card member
- Global Entry, NEXUS, or TSA PreCheck Fee Credit of up to $120 every 4 years as reimbursement for the application fee charged to your card
This is a great way to earn some IHG points! I prefer this to the personal version of this card since it has less of an impact to your credit score and 5/24 status. You will get TSA Precheck, NEXUS, or Global Entry, Platinum Elite status (which can give you room upgrades), and 4th night free when you book with points.
IHG has a large footprint in Europe of hotels that sleep 4. You can also check out my map of Holiday Inn Vacation Clubs — they have villas with kitchens and some sleep 6. We often use IHG points at Holiday Inn Express, avid, or Staybridge Suites on road trips. Or love a stay at a Kimpton.
140,000 points is the standard offer. A 165,000 point offer ended in June 2023. A 175,000 point offer ended May 16, 2024. And offer for up to 200,000 points ended in May 2025 — it required a total of $9000 spend to reach the full bonus. This same up to 200,000 point offer also ended in October 2025.

- World of Hyatt Discoverist status for as long as your account is open. Plus, Discoverist status to up to five employees
- Member FDIC
For us, this is a card we looked at primarily for the bonus. I don’t like that it has a higher annual fee and doesn’t come with an annual free night. This card is a great option for high spenders on a business card – you can earn Globalist status just through spending — IF you are a business that spends $10,000 a month.
When this card was released, it had an offer for 75k points that required $10,000 spend. In fall 2021 and 2022, it also offered double elite night credits. The standard offer is 60,000 points after spending $5,000. In fall 2023, there was an offer that added another 15k points for spending $12,000 total. The same offer returned in fall 2024.
Cash Back Offers
These are some of my favorite offers to earn extra travel money — or just extra cash in my pocket. These are also great options when you’re trying to stay under 5/24.
There’s a lot of behind the scenes for affiliate offers and one of the complications is that some cards I can earn an affiliate commission on but I can’t link to these offers directly from the card names. I *can* link to card offers from Chase, American Express, and Capital One – but generally can’t for other banks.

- $100 credit for recurring software subscription expenses such as FreshBooks or QuickBooks.
- 3% cash back on eligible purchases at gas and EV charging stations (transactions of $200 or less)*, office supply stores, cell phone service providers, and restaurants.
When this offer goes to $750 cash back it’s a very solid offer for a no-annual fee business card. This offer gives you straight cash back. Also a great option if you’re trying to stay under 5/24 (or get back there).
It even has a $100 annual credit for some business subscriptions — just keep in mind that you’d need to make 12 consecutive payments before you’ll get this.
The standard offer on this card is $500 cash back.

- 5X points on prepaid hotels and car rentals booked directly in the Travel Center when you use this card.
If you earn 75,000 points on this card, it’s essentially like earning $750 cash back. But note that it’s a little harder to cash out these points than if you were to just open the US Bank Triple Cash card. The most straightforward way to redeem is to deposit them into a US Bank Checking or Savings account. So you may want to pair this card with opening a US Bank banking account as well (look for one with a banking bonus!)
Still, a good business offer when it is at 75,000 points. This won’t report to personal credit bureaus so it doesn’t add to your 5/24 count.

This card was released in February 2026 with a strong welcome offer and an interesting option for Disney fans. If you don’t have any other card that gives you a monthly credit for Disney+ and you pay for that service, the $10/month credit will be easy to use.
The statement credit for theme park tickets would also be very easy to use for anyone who goes to Disney annually. Note that it is only for Disney tickets at US Theme Park tickets purchased directly with Disney.
One caution is that this card doesn’t include trip protections that other Chase cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred

Card® do. That would make me hesitant to book an cruise on the card or even resort stay — unless I was already paying for supplemental insurance out-of-pocket.
This is a new card as of February 2026.

This card does add to your 5/24 count so not the best for newbies. You’ll also have to use some of the perks to make up the annual fee.
The standard offer on this card is around 40,000-45,000 bonus points. In summer 2023, there was a 60,000 point bonus.
