Chase Sapphire Reserve® Benefits Activation Guide

Categories: Credit Card BenefitsBy Last Updated: May 1, 2026

A step-by-step playbook for your first month with the Chase Sapphire Reserve®.

How to use this

Work top-to-bottom. Each step is a one-shot action with the link, the deadline (where one exists), and a one-line “why this matters.” Don’t try to do it all in one sitting — the goal is to not miss the timed credits, especially the Whoop $359 (deadline 5/12/26) and the first round of 2026 StubHub + OpenTable Dining credits (deadline 6/30/26).

If you don’t have the card yet, read the next section first. If your card has arrived, skip to Day 1.

Before you apply

⚠️ Read this before submitting an application — these are the things you can’t fix afterward.

  • Have you earned the Reserve welcome offer before? If yes, you’re not likely eligible. If you apply, you’re likely to get a pop-up that says your ineligible for the welcome offer.
  • Can you hit the minimum spend? The welcome bonus requires $6,000 in spend in the first 3 months.
  • Do you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card? You no longer need to close it before applying — Chase changed that rule in January 2026.
  • Does your partner have a Chase Sapphire? If so they can refer you to earn extra points.
  • If not, please use my affiliate link! My affiliate link is here Thanks for your support! This allows me to keep creating resources and keep everything I create 100% free

Day 1 — Get the card working (5 minutes)

  • Activate the card in the Chase app, or call the activation number on the sticker.
  • Add the card to Apple Wallet / Google Wallet so you can spend on it immediately. Open your wallet app → tap “+” → scan the card.
  • If a partner or spouse will also use the card, they should add it to their wallet too — same scan-and-add flow on their phone.

That’s it for Day 1. The rest can happen this week.

Get to know these 2 Chase pages

Before working through This Week, get familiar with these.

Benefits Hub

Find this at account.chase.com/sapphire/reserve/benefits → select your card. This is where you can find information on every benefit on this card. Every benefit shows one of two statuses:

  • “Activation required” — click in to enroll. Until you do, the credit will not post.
  • “Activated” (or “Redeemed” for credits used this cycle) — you’re set.

Benefits Hub showing IHG Platinum Elite “Activation required”, Apple TV “Activated”, DashPass “Activated”

Benefits Hub showing $300 Travel Credit and $300 StubHub Credit marked “Redeemed”

Tip: scroll the whole Benefits Hub once now so you know what’s there. Anything tagged “Activation required” goes on your This Week list.

Chase Offers

Separate page from the Benefits Hub. Merchant-specific cashback offers live here — including the Whoop $359 credit. Find it at secure.chase.com/web/auth/dashboard#/dashboard/merchantOffers/offer-hub.

Chase Offers card overview showing total saved, added offers, and expiring offers

You can have dozens of offers active at once. New offers appear regularly and old ones expire — check back monthly.

To Do Right Away — Whoop $359 credit (deadline 5/12/26)

Heads up

This is the only thing on this page with a close-in hard deadline. Do it first.

If Whoop isn’t right for you, this credit can buy a Whoop as a gift — parent, partner, fitness-curious friend. Don’t necessarily skip the section because you’re not personally interested.

  • Add the Whoop offer to your card before you purchase. Log in to Chase, click your card, find Chase Offers, locate Whoop, tap “Add to Card.”
  • Buy the Whoop Life Membership Annual Plan at whoop.com/us/en/chase-sapphire/ using your Reserve.
  • ⚠️ Make sure you spend $359 or more. Shipping + tax can push some people above $359, but a referral discount can drop you below it. You can save $29 with a referral from our community — but only if you can still stay above $359 (add a small additional item if needed). If your total drops below $359, the credit doesn’t trigger.
  • Statement credit posts within 14 business days. Confirm it shows up.

To Do Your First Month — One-time activations (~30 minutes total)

Goal: enroll once in everything that requires activation, so the rest of the year runs on autopilot. Grouped by effort.

Quick activations with the Chase app or Website (do these first, 15 minutes total)

FIRSTSet up Autopay to make sure you don’t miss a payment!

Then these take a few quick clicks in the Benefits Hub. Knock them out in one sitting if you can.

Remember: it’s okay to not use a benefit. If you don’t want to deal with Apple Music or Peloton, it’s okay to skip that!

  • StubHub $300/year credit. account.chase.com/sapphire/reserve/benefits → activate. Covers all years through 12/31/2027 — no annual reactivation. Credit auto-applies the next time you pay on StubHub or viagogo with your Reserve ($150 Jan–Jun 2026, $150 Jul–Dec 2026, $150 Jan–Jun 2027). Splits across multiple transactions. Notes: UK events don’t trigger the credit. Especially great for last-minute deals when shows/games/events don’t sell out and vendors lower prices close in — I once snagged Hamilton tickets for $50 this way.
  • OpenTable Sapphire Exclusive Tables $300/year credit. You don’t need an OpenTable account, but having one unlocks more reservation times. To do so, go to opentable.com/c/chasedining/ → link your Reserve. Credit auto-applies when you pay at restaurants with the “Sapphire Reserve” badge. Posts in 6–8 weeks. Splits across transactions.
  • Apple TV+ AND Apple Music — complimentary through 6/22/27. account.chase.com/sapphire/reserve/benefits → click “Activate Now” on each → link your Apple ID. If you already pay for either, your existing subscription pauses automatically. If you have Apple One, pause it manually. You can also gift these by entering someone else’s Apple ID.
  • Priority Pass + Sapphire Lounge access. account.chase.com/sapphire/reserve/benefits → Airport Lounge Access → “Enroll.” Brings you + 2 guests into 1,300+ Priority Pass lounges and the new Sapphire Lounges (in select airports). Digital card lives in the Chase app or your email. You’ll want to add it to your digital wallet for easy access. Bonus: also covers Priority Pass non-lounge experiences like Gameway, where many cards don’t.

Activations that need an external account or payment-method swap (~5 min each)

These take longer because they involve a second site.

  • DashPass + DoorDash credits — through 12/31/2027. Activation instructions here. Monthly: $5 off one restaurant order + two $10 off non-restaurant (grocery/retail) orders. Heads up: the pickup minimum is now $20, so plan three separate transactions per month. More tips in the article.
  • Lyft $10/month credits — through 9/30/2027. Set Reserve as your default payment in the Lyft app. Credit posts in-app monthly when you take a ride paid with your Reserve. Plus 5x points on Lyft.
  • IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite — through 12/31/27. Free hotel status: bonus points, room upgrades when available, late checkout. account.chase.com/sapphire/reserve/benefits → link your IHG One Rewards membership. Don’t have one? Sign up free at ihg.com, then come back to Chase and link it. Allow up to 3 weeks for status to post.
  • (Optional) Install a browser extension to auto-add Chase Offers going forward — see Appendix.
  • Peloton $10/month — through 12/31/2027. account.chase.com/sapphire/reserve/benefits → “Maximize Your Credits” → Peloton → “Activate.” Then add Reserve as your subscription’s payment method on Peloton. Eligible: All-Access, Rental, Guide, App+, App One, Strength+. No Peloton hardware? The Strength+ App at $9.99/month is fully covered by the $10 credit — cheapest way to use this benefit.

This is what the button to activate will look like

June 30, 2026 — $300 deadline (Jan–Jun StubHub + OpenTable)

If you don’t spend these, you lose them.

  • OpenTable Dining $150 (Jan–Jun 2026). Browse Sapphire Exclusive Tables → opentable.com/c/chasedining/ (or my restaurant map). You don’t need a reservation — just need to pay at a participating spot.
  • StubHub $150 (Jan–Jun 2026). Concert, sports event, theater, or a future-dated event. Just purchase before 6/30 → stubhub.com. Credits are also valid at Viagogo.com which sometimes has better pricing.

Calendar-year hotel credits — plan now, book anytime in 2026

These don’t expire June 30, but if you want to stack them, you need to plan ahead. You just need to book by December 31, 2026 but you can stay anytime in the future (even in 2027).

Also remember, you don’t have to use all your credits for a card to be worth it! I personally don’t anticipate using my Edit Collection or even Select Hotel credits in 2026.

  • The Edit — $250 + $250 (up to $500 in 2026). First $250 auto-applies to the first eligible prepaid 2+ night booking on the card. Second $250 auto-applies to the second. Filter “The Edit” on chase.com/travel. Tip — pair points with cash: through Chase Travel’s Points + Cash option, leave exactly $250 in cash on the booking (so the credit fully covers it) and pay the rest of the stay with Ultimate Rewards points.
  • 2026-only $250 hotel credit (book by 12/31/26). Book a prepaid 2+ night stay through Chase Travel at IHG®, Montage, Pendry, Omni, Virgin Hotels, Minor Hotels, or Pan Pacific. Auto-applies. → chase.com/travel (filter “Pay Now”).
  • Stack the two for $500 off one stay. If a property is on BOTH the Edit list AND the 7-brand list, one prepaid 2+ night stay can trigger both credits. See my Sapphire Stack 2026 Hotel Credits Map for which properties stack.

Learn how to use your points

You’re earning Chase Ultimate Rewards® (UR) points on every purchase and with your welcome offer bonus. UR points are flexible because you can transfer them to airline and hotel partners. You can also cash them out or use them to book via Chase Travel.

The most popular transfer partners: Hyatt, United, Southwest, Air Canada Aeroplan, British Airways / Iberia / Aer Lingus Avios, Virgin Red — plus several more.

Heads up on Points Boost: While Chase advertises Points Boost for bookings in Chase Travel, this seems to be at lower rates than they initially advertised. Some select hotels will have high 2-cents-per-point redemptions, but not even all hotels marked as “Points Boost” will.

Where to learn more — start with these:

July 1, 2026 — Your second-half benefits reset

Halfway through the year, the biannual credits refresh. Here’s what’s freshly available — use it by 12/31/26.

  • $150 StubHub credit (Jul–Dec 2026). Concert, game, theater, or future-dated event. Use by 12/31/26 → stubhub.com (or Viagogo.com for sometimes-better pricing).
  • $150 OpenTable Dining credit (Jul–Dec 2026). Pay at restaurants with the “Sapphire Reserve” badge. Use by 12/31/26 → opentable.com/c/chasedining/.

More Credits To Use

These auto-apply credits kick in when you pay with your Reserve — no activation needed.

  • $300 annual travel credit. Auto-applies to the first $300 of travel each card-anniversary year. Counts not just airfare/hotels/rental cars — also taxis, tolls, parking, bus tickets, even some campsites. This makes it the easiest travel credit to use of any premium card.
  • $120 Trusted Traveler credit (Global Entry / TSA PreCheck / NEXUS). Pay your application or renewal fee with the Reserve, get a statement credit up to $120. Renews every 4 years. Don’t double-up unnecessarily: kids under 18 now get Global Entry free if a parent has it, so most households only need 2 of these credits per renewal cycle (not 4).

Learn About More Benefits

These also kick in when you pay with your Reserve — skim once so you know they exist.

  • No foreign transaction fees.
  • Primary rental car coverage (CDW) when you decline the rental company’s collision insurance and pay with your Reserve. Primary, not secondary — Chase pays before your auto insurance.
  • Travel Protections. Pay for the trip with your Reserve for benefits like trip cancellation, trip delay, lost or delayed luggage, emergency evacuation. Tip: the cardholder doesn’t need to be on the trip. As long as the trip is booked on the Reserve, immediate family is covered for delay, cancellation, interruption, baggage delay, and lost luggage.
  • Roadside Assistance. Call 1-800-350-1697 (24/7) for towing, jump-starts, tire changes, lockouts, fuel delivery (up to 2 gallons), or standard winching. Up to 4 events per year, each covered up to $50 — you pay any excess. US and Canada only, vehicles up to 10,000 lbs.
  • Purchase protection, return protection, and extended warranty on items bought with your Reserve.

Want to go deeper? These podcast episodes focus on the Chase Sapphire Preferred — Reserve has all the same benefits (or better):

November 1, 2026 — Year-end booking check-in

Soft deadline, but treat it like a hard one. Bookings made now have time to post before 12/31. If you push hotel bookings, Edit stays, or StubHub/OpenTable spending into the last week of December, charges may not post in time and the credit can fail.

  • Have you used your Jul–Dec StubHub $150? Concert, game, or theater coming up? Buy now → stubhub.com (or Viagogo.com for sometimes-better pricing).
  • Have you used your Jul–Dec OpenTable Dining $150? Holiday-season dining is the easiest path — book Sapphire Exclusive Tables now → opentable.com/c/chasedining/.
  • Have you booked your 2026-only $250 hotel credit? Find a 2+ night prepaid stay at IHG, Montage, Pendry, Omni, Virgin, Minor, or Pan Pacific → chase.com/travel (filter “Pay Now”). Stay can be in 2027.
  • Have you used your second Edit $250 booking? If you’ve used the first $250 but not the second, find another 2+ night prepaid Edit booking now.
  • If you renewed Global Entry / TSA PreCheck this year, confirm you paid with the Reserve so the $120 statement credit posts.

December 31, 2026 — Hard deadline for year-end credits

This is the cliff. If a credit hasn’t posted by 12/31, it’s gone.

  • Confirm your 2026-only $250 hotel credit posted. Look at your statement. Should appear as a statement credit on a Chase Travel hotel charge.
  • Confirm your Jul–Dec StubHub $150 posted. $150 statement credit (may split across multiple charges).
  • Confirm your Jul–Dec OpenTable Dining $150 posted. $150 statement credit (may split across multiple charges).
  • Confirm your second Edit $250 posted — if you booked two Edit stays this year, you should see two $250 statement credits.
  • Confirm your $120 Trusted Traveler credit posted — only if you renewed Global Entry / TSA PreCheck / NEXUS this year.

If anything is missing, call Chase. There’s typically one billing-cycle of buffer, but don’t wait long.

After January 1, 2027 — Your benefits just reset

A new calendar year refreshes most Reserve credits. Here’s what’s freshly available — go use it.

  • $150 StubHub credit (Jan–Jun 2027). Same biannual structure as 2026. Use by 6/30/27 → stubhub.com (or Viagogo.com).
  • $150 OpenTable Dining credit (Jan–Jun 2027). Same biannual structure. Use by 6/30/27 → opentable.com/c/chasedining/.
  • The Edit — fresh $250 + $250 for 2027. Two prepaid 2+ night Edit bookings each trigger $250 off, up to $500 total for the year → chase.com/travel (filter “The Edit”).
  • DashPass / Lyft / Peloton monthly credits restart. January’s credits are available — $5 + 2×$10 DashPass, $10 Lyft, $10 Peloton. New month, new credits.
  • $75K spend tier counter resets. If you’re tracking toward the $75K threshold (most people shouldn’t — see Appendix), January 1 starts you back at zero.

What does NOT reset on Jan 1, 2027:

  • $300 annual travel credit — resets on your card anniversary date (around April 2027 if you applied in April 2026), not Jan 1.
  • 2026-only $250 hotel credit — was a one-time 2026 promo. No automatic 2027 equivalent unless Chase announces a new one.
  • $120 Trusted Traveler credit — every 4 years per renewal cycle, not annual.

Your 2027 Anniversary: Evaluate the card

About 30 days before your card-anniversary date, the second annual fee will post. Now’s the time to take stock of year 1 and plan for year 2.

  • Use my Benefits Calculator to plug in your 2027 numbers and make sure this makes sense for you still. Add up what you actually used (Whoop, hotel credits, StubHub, OpenTable, DashPass, Lyft, Peloton, Apple TV+/Music, Priority Pass visits, etc.). Compare to the annual fee.
  • Confirm your $300 annual travel credit reset for year 2. It resets on your card anniversary, not Jan 1. Use it.

Even More Info (Appendix)

The triple-dip math

If you applied in April 2026, your anniversary is around April 2027 — meaning you get the Jan–Jun 2027 StubHub + OpenTable Dining credits posted before your second annual fee posts. That’s three rounds of biannual credits for one annual fee:

  • $150 StubHub + $150 OpenTable (Jan–Jun 2026)
  • $150 StubHub + $150 OpenTable (Jul–Dec 2026)
  • $150 StubHub + $150 OpenTable (Jan–Jun 2027)

Total

$900 in biannual credits before the second annual fee hits. This is why mid-year applications are particularly strong economically.

The $75K spend tier

If you spend $75,000 on the card in a calendar year, you unlock a tier of “premium benefits”:

  • IHG One Rewards Diamond Elite status — you can get this just by holding an IHG credit card.
  • Southwest Airlines® A-List status — most benefits will probably be redundant if you already have one of the higher-annual-fee Southwest cards.
  • $500 Southwest Airlines credit when booked through Chase Travel — generally you’re better off transferring points to Southwest directly for the booking flexibility, but if you’ve earned this credit, go ahead and use it via Chase Travel.
  • Hyatt Explorist status — there are easier ways to earn Hyatt status.
  • $250 credit to The Shops at Chase — a new online shopping experience for cardmembers featuring brands like Dyson, Sony, Therabody, and Tumi. Pay with Ultimate Rewards points or the card.

For most people, don’t chase this threshold. Each of these has an easier path that doesn’t require concentrating $75K of spend on one card. But if you’re going to hit $75K naturally, take advantage of what posts.

Browser extensions to auto-activate Chase Offers

If you don’t want to manually click each Chase Offer when it appears:

  • Card Pointers — auto-activates Chase Offers, plus tracks credit redemptions across cards.
  • SaveWise — similar, free browser extension.

Set these up after you’ve manually worked through Chase Offers once so you understand what they’re auto-clicking on your behalf.
