Transfer ThankYou Points to American Airlines AAdvantage at 1:1 (NEW in 2025)
Citi added American Airlines AAdvantage as a 1:1 transfer partner. Major addition since AA was previously not transferable from any major flexible points currency. Particularly valuable for: Cathay Pacific oneworld awards (booked with AA miles), AA economy/business, partner airline awards. Citi is the ONLY major transferable currency that includes AA.
Turkish Airlines Transfer for United Domestic at 7,500 Miles Each Way
Turkish Miles&Smiles is one of the most underrated transfer partners. Key sweet spot: United domestic flights (Turkish is Star Alliance) cost only 7,500 Turkish miles each way — lowest of any program for booking United domestic. Transfer ratio is 1:1. Plus Turkish has solid award availability for Europe and Asia.
Choice 1:1.5 Transfer (Devaluation Apr 19, 2026) + Preferred Hotels 1:2
As of April 19, 2026, Choice Privileges transfer rate dropped from 1:2 to 1:1.5 (25% devaluation). Still good value but no longer 'doubles'. Preferred Hotels stays at 1:2. Choice has wide international footprint + Ascend Collection (boutique/historic hotels) + ability to book Preferred Hotel Collection with Choice points.

Citi Point Sharing ENDS May 17, 2026 (Affects Pairing Strategy)
A major change announced for May 17, 2026: Citi is ENDING point sharing between Citi cards. This breaks the previously-recommended 'Citi trifecta' strategy where Custom Cash points, Double Cash points, and Strata Premier points could all be pooled into the Strata Premier's transfer partner access. After May 17, 2026, each Citi card's points are siloed. Strata Premier holders should plan to redeem any pooled points before May 17, or ensure all bonus-category spending goes directly on Strata Premier going forward.
Best-In-Class Extended Warranty (+2 Years)
Extends the manufacturer's U.S. warranty by an additional 2 years on eligible warranties of 5 years or less, capped at 7 years total from the purchase date. Stronger than most $95-tier cards (the Chase Sapphire Preferred only adds 1 year). Worth keeping for big appliance or electronics purchases.
No Foreign Transaction Fees
No foreign transaction fees on international purchases. Saves the typical 1-3% FTF charged by other cards. Important for a travel card.
Travel Insurance Suite (Trip Delay/Cancel/Interrupt + Luggage + MasterRental)
Comprehensive travel insurance package re-added in the 2024 Strata refresh: Trip Delay Protection, Trip Cancellation/Interruption Protection, Lost or Damaged Luggage coverage, and MasterRental Coverage (auto rental insurance, secondary in the U.S.). A welcome addition for a mid-tier card.
Purchase Protection (90 Days, $10K/Incident, $50K/Year)
Damage and theft purchase protection covers eligible new purchases for 90 days from purchase date. Up to $10,000 per incident and $50,000 per year per card. Stronger limits than most $95-tier cards.
Citi Travel Portal: Redeem Points at 1 Cent Per Point (cpp)
Redeem ThankYou Points through Citi Travel portal at 1 cpp for travel bookings (hotels, flights, car rentals, attractions). Better than the 0.75 cpp cash redemption rate. Best path for travelers who don't want to deal with transfer partner complexity. 60,000 welcome bonus = $600 in travel via portal.
Citi Flex Pay (BNPL on $75+ Purchases, Continue Earning Points)
Buy now, pay later option on eligible purchases of $75 or more. Pay over time in fixed monthly payments AND continue to earn points on the purchase. Useful for spreading out the welcome offer minimum spend.
Citi Entertainment® Access
Access to Citi Entertainment® for exclusive presale tickets to concerts, sporting events, dining experiences, and more.
Cash Redemption = 0.75 Cents Per Point (Devaluation Aug 24, 2025)
Cash redemptions on this card are 0.75 cpp (10,000 points = $75 cash) — devaluation went into effect August 24, 2025. Travel through Citi Travel = 1 cpp. Transfer partners typically 1.5-2+ cpp. Don't redeem for cash on this card.
Citi Application Restrictions (48-Month Family + Velocity Rules)
48-month welcome bonus restriction on Strata Premier specifically. Each Citi Strata card considered INDEPENDENTLY — eligible for Strata Premier bonus even if you currently hold or have held: Strata Elite, Strata, Custom Cash, Double Cash. HOWEVER, the legacy Citi Premier (pre-Strata) bonus DOES count — if you got that bonus in past 48 months, you're not eligible for Strata Premier. Citi 1/8 (1 personal per 8 days) + 2/65 (2 per 65 days) velocity rules apply. Doesn't count toward Chase 5/24.
Citi Trifecta Strategy (Use Before May 17, 2026 Point Sharing Ends!)
Combine Strata Premier + Custom Cash + Double Cash (or Strata, the no-AF version). Total cost: $95 ($95 Premier + $0 Custom Cash + $0 Double Cash). Earnings: 5x in your top category (Custom Cash), 2% on everything (Double Cash), and 3-10x on travel/dining/groceries/gas (Strata Premier). With point sharing, all earnings flow to Strata Premier's transfer partners. Note that point sharing ends May 17, 2026, so this strategy fundamentally changes after that date.

This card also has a number of standard transfer partners and one very unique one: American Airlines.
I also really like that the extended warranty is the best of all the starter cards and offers an additional 2 years of protection on items you purchase.
