Chase DoorDash Benefit (How to Maximize)

Categories: Credit Card BenefitsBy Last Updated: March 12, 2025

On August 1, 2024, Chase and DoorDash rolled out new benefits to a lot of Chase cards. The benefits are the most generous on the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and Chase Sapphire Reserve® where you will get benefits through December 31, 2027. There are also benefits on most Chase Co-Branded cards as well. It’s an easy benefit to use and get quick value from.

What is DoorDash?

DoorDash started off as a meal delivery service but has now expanded to include grocery stores, convenience stores, liquor stores, and even a wide variety of retail stores.

If you order an item to be delivered, it may be subject to order minimums. You may also incur service fees and you will be expected to tip your driver.

If you order at item for pickup (not available at many locations), you’ll be able to circumvent most of the fees.

What is DashPass?

DashPass is a subscription service that offers unlimited deliveries from thousands of eligible restaurants with $0 delivery fee on orders over $12. It also works with certain retail and grocery stores for reduced delivery fees.

DashPass normally costs $9.99 per month with the monthly plan or $96 per year with the Annual Plan.

What benefits do Chase Card Members get at Door Dash?

Chase credit card members have slightly different benefits depending on their credit card. These benefits are good through December 31, 2027. You can read all the terms here. I won’t go through all the cards here.

The most generous benefits are on the Chase Sapphire cards and those are the ones we will cover in detail.

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card Benefits

You get 2 benefits: DashPass and a $10 credit every month.

You can get a free DashPass membership through December 31, 2027 — or for a minimum of one year. If you activate your benefit today, you’ll have it through December 31, 2027. If you wait to activate it till December 30, 2027 (but don’t do that! You’ll miss out on freebies) — you’ll have it for one year from that time.

You also get a monthly $10 promo for non-restaurants while you’re enrolled in DashPass. DashPass is free for you through the end of 2027 so that’s a lot of credits!

This is our favorite card for beginners and I already think the benefits far outweigh the annual fee — and now with this, you get as much as $120 a year for DoorDash!

Chase Sapphire Reserve® Benefits

Like with a Sapphire Preferred, you can get a free DashPass membership through December 31, 2027 — or for a minimum of one year.

You get TWO monthly $10 promo for non-restaurants while enrolled in DashPass. You also get a $5 monthly dining credit.

Chase Co Brand Benefits

Chase co-branded cards include cards that earn with Southwest, United, Hyatt, and more! These cards are also eligible for DoorDash benefits, but they benefits aren’t as generous. These also can’t be stacked alongside the Sapphire benefits (I tried).

A few aren’t eligible like the Amazon Rewards Visa Card, Instacart Mastercard, and DoorDash Rewards Mastercard.

With co-branded cards you can get free DashPass for 12 months after activation. During the time you are enrolled in DashPass with your card, you will get one quarterly $10 promo applicable to eligible non-restaurant orders.

Steps to Follow to Use the $10 Monthly Promo

Here are the basic steps to follow to activate and redeem your benefits.

1) Sign up for a DoorDash account

If you don’t already have one, you’ll need to create a new account. You’ll need to verify your phone number as part of the process. You can only have one DoorDash account per phone number.

2) Add your Chase card as a payment method

Whatever card you want to use the benefit on is the one you should add. Since the benefits are most generous on the Sapphire cards, you’ll want to add your Sapphire card, assuming you have one.

3) Activate your Chase Dash Pass

Once you add your Chase card, you should see a banner asking if you want to activate Chase DashPass benefits. You do! You’re getting free DashPass through December 31, 2027 and all those monthly credits.

4) Search for “Pickup” options if you want to save on fees – or “Delivery” to save on time

From the home screen on the app, you can select the “Pickup” button to filter for Pickup locations.

Then you can select “View on Map” to easily see the ones closest to you, or on routes you often drive.

Note that it is easiest to find places when they are open, so if you search very early in the morning or very late at night, your options may be more limited.

But also note that if you want to save on time — getting delivery might make sense for you. You’ll still pay a tip and may be subject to order minimums, but after the $10 off, you can still get items delivered for the same price as you would have paid in store.

5) Ignore restaurants and focus on grocery, convenience stores, liquor stores, or retail

This $10 benefit doesn’t work for restaurants so you need to ignore those.

In my area, the only stores that aren’t restaurants that also have pickup are convenience stores and liquor stores. Your area might have more options.

Once I pulled up the map view, I also entered “Grocery” into the search box to filter the options more quickly.

The closest to me are a Speedway (gas station store) and 7/11. There’s also a DashMart which is Door Dash’s own mini grocery store. Are the prices higher than at my regular run to Aldi? Yes! But I’m still getting $10 of items for free.

6) Add items to your cart

Your monthly promo will be good for up to $10. If you spend less than $10, your total will just be $0! What you choose to buy is up to you. I don’t recommend spending much over $10 unless you find some great deals, otherwise you aren’t saving money.

7) Double check for Pickup

DoorDash really must want you to get delivery instead of pickup. In most of our test orders, it defaulted to delivery even though we had selected pickup. If that happens to you, just back up your cart till you can once again, select “Pick Up” instead of delivery. Of course, if you’re making your life easy by getting delivery, go for it!

8) New process >> Find the Chase DoorDash Toggle

DoorDash doesn’t want to give you that $10 promo automatically. And in February 2025, the process to add your promo has changed.

From your cart, you’ll need scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click “Continue.” If you have a DoorDash promo, you could add it now.

DoorDash will try to sell you more items — click “Continue” again.

You’ll finally make it to the final check out screen. Now you’ll see a toggle for the “Chase monthly benefit.” Make sure that toggle is turned on so you are activating your benefit. Then click “Next.”

9) Pick up your order

Now you get to enjoy your order!

10) Do it again for the next 40 months (till December 31, 2027)

It’s only $10, but since there are so many places to do an easy pick up, I bet you can find one that’s convenient for you! Sure 7/11 has snacks and junk food but they also have medicine and other household items, too.

Tips to Maximize Your $10 Promos

I’ll start off by saying, you likely won’t be able to use this benefit on every single Chase card you have.

That’s because you can only have one account per phone number. And you can only get the $10 promo on the account where you’ve activated your Chase DashPass benefit. If you have teenagers or college students, you could choose to activate one of the year long Dash Pass benefits on their own Door Dash account and they would get one $10 promo per quarter.

Use Pick Up instead of Delivery

You’ll save the most this way — you won’t have to pay a driver tip. You can easily filter for “pickup” locations using the DoorDash website or app.

Stack with Store Coupons

One of our team members used the promo and was able to combine it with store offers. These are separate from DoorDash promos which are limited to one per order. In her case, she was able to find Oreos she needed for a cake at Dollar General. They were $5 and if you bought two, you got $3 off via Dollar General. Two packs of Oreos was under the $10 delivery order minimum so she added something else. After the coupons, delivery, tax, and tip, she paid around $7. She would have paid at least that for just the Oreos if she had gotten them at the grocery store but this way she avoided the trip to the store plus essentially got an extra item for free.

Use your Sapphire credits in 2 person mode

If you have two Sapphire cards in your household, you’ll want to add your Sapphire cards to separate DoorDash accounts.

In our household, my husband and I each have a Sapphire. We also each have a DoorDash account. We each added our own Sapphire card to our DoorDash account as a payment method and activated the DashPass benefit.

We generally plan to use our credits at the same place and the same time in order to only do one pick up per month.

Don’t get upsold

Remember that most of the items at 7/11 are going to be high priced! But it can help if you find something that you consider a splurge that you can get there — and just get that each month to cut down on decision making. For us, that’s Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. We’re planning to try out all the flavors until we find our favorite!

Get your order as close to $10 as possible

These promo credits can actually zero out an order of less than $10 which means you can truly get a free lunch. You do lose any of the remaining value if you don’t use it.

Pick up with an hour

We’ve seen reports of people’s orders getting cancelled at 7/11 (and could be other places, too) when they don’t pick up their order within an hour. Try to place your order and go pick up shortly after.

Issue with order cancellation

Unfortunately, some stores seem to cancel orders and say they don’t have the items in stock. When this happens, you won’t get your $10 promo back into your account, it will just be gone. As of now, there isn’t a solution except to wait until next month and try again.

Order ideas

Here are some ideas we got from readers who have used their promo codes:

  • 7/11 ideas: Ice, road trip snacks, milk, paper plates, Ben and Jerry’s, a Large Pizza
  • Hoagies at Wawa
  • One of our readers shared she ordered from Dash Mart which is a Door Dash managed store and she got a pint of ice cream ($6.49) plus a $5 bag of mystery produce that included 3 lbs of grapes, 1 lb of organic carrots, 6 oz of blueberries, one bunch of bananas, a zucchini, a tomato, a lemon, a red pepper plus a package of fresh sage. Her out of pocket total was only $1.52!
  • Sephora (delivery only)

Knowledge/information is power! Just placed my first order for a net $0.94 with slightly higher than $10 items. It’s amazing that neither Chase nor Door Dash openly advertises for this promotion. Thank you so much Katie!

so glad it worked for you! Here’s to 40 more months of it!

2 player mode not working for me. Made new accounts for myself and my wife, everything separate (name, phone number, email, CSP numbers) and my wife’s works fine but mine gives an error every time. Have tried DD support on twitter and chat with no resolution. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I had one other person tell me that and I haven’t seen a solution yet. It’s so odd. Have you tried desktop vs app?

      • John August 23, 2024 at 2:05 pm

Yes both desktop and app, and incognito, etc. Thanks.

      • Katie Holden September 4, 2024 at 10:55 am

Still have not heard a solution, sorry! My only other idea would be using a VPN.

I love trying this out! We have a Casey’s convenience store in our area that allows for pick up. I was going to purchase a gift card of some sort (which I know they sell in store) but they don’t offer any gift cards on the door dash app. I searched in the search bar. Any other suggestions? Thank you!!

    • Katie Holden September 4, 2024 at 10:57 am - Reply

Not all items that are in the store are available with the app. It’s possible as time goes on they will add more.

This worked perfectly for me! I followed your steps and decided to stock up on energy drinks for my husband, who usually buys them from the vending machine at work. As a bonus, I also filled up on gas while I was there—one of my least favorite chores—but this deal definitely made it more bearable. Thank you to you and your team for sharing the value of this benefit!

Perfect use! It can be your once a month energy drink/gas stock up :)

Thanks for the step-by-step instructions! I would have had no idea that our CSPs had this benefit. Thank you so much!

Question for you. My subtotal was $9.98 and I entered the $10 code and it showed $0 due. Then after I placed the order, I got a Chase text showing I was charged 27 cents. I went back into the app and it shows 29 cents for tax. Is this normal? To be charged tax on a $0 balance? Not complaining, just curious for the future.

    • Katie Holden September 4, 2024 at 10:58 am - Reply

Hmmm that seems odd but I don’t know for sure! I’ll have to be checking to see if I’m charged tax.

Any suggestions of why the DashPass does not pop up? I just created a DoorDash and entered my CSP as my saved payment method but the Free DashPass option did not pop up.

    • Katie Holden October 9, 2024 at 1:09 pm - Reply

Maybe try from a computer and in the app. And maybe delete and re-install the app?

  12. Sally Payne February 2, 2025 at 4:26 pm - Reply

Can AUs also use this benefit or is it one DD account per card?

    • Katie Holden February 6, 2025 at 7:47 am - Reply

I believe one DD per card since it is the same card number.

Hello! I believe there was (is?) once something about the $5 restaurant DoorDash Chase credit rolling over up to $15 if unused (i.e. up to 3 months)? Does this still occur?
