Travel Games for Kids Ages 3-4

Racoon Rumpus

One of our favorite games for young kids. Not ideal for a plane ride but the game packs small enough that you can throw it into your suitcase for when you arrive at your destination. Works on basic skills like colors and counting to 5. Find it here.

Matching Games

There are so many versions of matching games out there! We often would find a piece of cardboard or paper and make our own during the plane ride. Or bring one with you like this. Find it here.

Spot It! Junior

The junior version has more recognizable pictures than the regular version which makes it easier for younger kids. It also has fewer pictures per card. A great way to start playing Spot It with younger kids! Find it here.

Travel Games for Kids 5+

Sleeping Queens

This game can be adapted for kids as young as 4, especially if you play more with an open hand. Great for beginning addition and subtraction practice as well. This one almost always makes it into our bag! Find it here.

Sushi Go!

Sushi Go! is another favorite that can be played with a variety of ages. Probably best to start at age 5ish. Find it here.

Spot It!

The classic version of this game is great for ages 5+. I especially love this version because the cards are waterproof. Spot It comes in lots of themes, so check out all the version if your kids have a particular interest. Find it here.

Stack the Scoops

We are partial to this game because it was developed by our friends and fellow worldschooling family during COVID lockdown. The worst part is that it always makes us want to eat ice cream afterwards. Simple addition and multiplication skills. Find it here.

Travel Games for Kids 7+

Gonuts for Donuts

This has some similarities to Sushi Go, and is made by the same creators. The box is a little unnecessarily bulky for travel, but you can scale it down. One of our current favorites! Find it here.

Minecraft Card Game

If your kids love Minecraft, this game is a must have! It is a surprisingly fun card game adaptation. Great for actually getting the kids off of their screens and playing an in-person game. Find it here.

Dragonwood

Another great game for multiple ages. This has some fun probability and fantasy elements. The box on this one is unnecessarily large so we usually put it into another smaller box when we travel with it. Find it here.

Monopoly Deal

If your kids always beg you to play Monopoly, you need this as a substitute. Games last 10 minutes instead of hours. And it is still entertaining. Find it here.

Catan Dice Game

Sometimes it is fun to have a dice game instead of all card games! This game provides a good intro to Settlers of Catan for kids. Very compact and fits all in the clamshell it comes in. Find it here.

Solitaire Travel Games for Kids

Kanoodle

A great puzzle that has both 2D and 3D puzzles to solve. My daughter loved this starting around age 6. Nice and compact and great for kids to keep in their own backpacks. Find it here.

Flexi Puzzle

Fidget toy and brain game in one! Comes with a bag to keep it together with puzzles. Very compact. Find it here.

Speed Cube and Pyramid Cube Set

This set has more variety than just a standard Rubik’s cube, plus no stickers to come off! The pyramid is easier to learn than the 3×3. And if you haven’t watched the Netflix documentary on Speed Cube champions, check it out! Find it here.
